Here is a look at the site from the middle years.  Because of some data lost over the past many years, some of these pictures may have been actually taken outside of the 1956-58 time slot. 

 

You may note that many of the pictures refer to boats and barges.  This is the way most of the people stationed at H-4, and their needed supplies, arrived at the site.  There were no finished piers or docking facilities so often it was take a fishing boat to where a row boat could take you to shore, or at least near enough to wade the rest of the way.
