To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, a time to reap ...    The 667th AC&W Sq. was deactivated on September 30,1988 and operations at H-3 ended.  The site lay dormant until 2003 when the bulldozers and wrecking ball came to demolish the facilities after whatever useful things had been removed over the years. 

 

The Icelandic authorities did install an automated radar system at the H-3 location.  This radar was controlled from Rekavik and handles the Air Traffic Control services needed by the growing aircraft traffic in Iceland and the North Atlantic.
