H-3 Navy

The USAF was not the only US Military permanently stationed at H-3.  The US Navy had a small detachment manning a Navy communications station on the site.  There were only about 15 or so sailors stationed there at any one time.  They maintained the HF radio systems and, rumor has it, an underwater acoustic listening system used to detect Soviet submarines.  They had their own barracks but shared the site's other services and facilities.   Paul James, one of these few sailors, provided these pictures.
