Sometimes things did not go as well as you would hope.  Here are a couple of pictures about these aircraft crash landings and wrecks.  Not shown are the two F-89's crash that killed three  in the early years.  One survivor was pulled from the ocean by Icelandic fishermen before he could drown or be killed by hypothermia.  One of the F-102's shown was returning from an intercept near Hofn when it crashed.  The pilot ejected safely but it took several days to recover the Air to Air missiles and sensitive electronics from the crash area.
